Example1

“ That all white women have flat booties.”

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=stereotype

Identifying the bias: stereotype about racial demographics.

Analysis:

The saying that “ That all white women have flat booties” is a stereotype about racial demographics. A term used to define all people of a certain belief into a mostly negative category that may only reflect a selected few of the racial demographics – “white women” . All people of all nationalities have been victims of being stereotyped, even those whom have made most of the stereotypes of other people. This stereotype is involuntarily lived out by a small segment of who they are made to offend – “ have flat booties”.

Example 2

Identifying the bias: racial discrimination

Analysis:

This is the racial discrimination – unfair treatment of people based on their skin color. In the picture, the black man looks so sad. We notice the sentences-“ I constantly get called names and made fun of. It’s not my fault that I am black” that he says. Through it, the man is treated in a less favorable way such as “get called names” and “made fun of” because he is black. Negative attitudes towards the black lead to unfair action of treating this man.

Example 3

It is a general perception, that people with mental illnesses, are prone to violence. This perception has developed from the stereotypes portrayed in movies or written about in books, wherein a mentally ill person becomes violent and goes on a rampage.

Identifying the bias: prejudice based on mind.

Analysis: In this example, there aren’t researches to prove for sure. It is proven that it is “ general perception”, “in movie”, “ in books”. We don’t know what are the facts. Nevertheless, people with mental illnesses are considered as violent people and go on a rampage. In this case, there is a negative judgment without knowledge of the facts.
