Item 1: A joke
A STOLEN CREDIT CARD
A man said his credit card was stolen but he decided not to report it because the thief was spending less than his wife did.
Source: http://www.ahajokes.com/gen26.html
– Identifying the bias : Gender prejudice
– Analysis : This joke tells about a gender prejudice : Women spend much money than men. The man in the story decides not to report his stolen credit card because he thinks that his wife will spend his money much more than the thief. All men regard the women is a spending machine. This is the negative opinion without any roof. “Women spend much money than men” is a common prejudice among many gender prejudices.
Item 2 : A story:
A deaf and blind woman has booked a minicab. When the minicab arrives, the driver asks the passenger to pay the fare in advance, something which he would not require from other passengers. The driver believes, without good reason, that because of her disability she is less likely to be able to pay.
– Identifying bias : Discrimination
– Analysis : The driver in the story did not rely on two women because they are disable. He regarded that they are poor and pitiful people so that he did not believe in their disability of paying. Because of his prejudice, he did an unfair action that is asking the fare in advance. This is a discrimination base on the prejudice with disable people.
Item 3: A joke:
There’s three guys on a bridge; an American, Mexican, Asian. They decide to throw something they have too much of in their country, off the bridge. First the Asian throws over a large bag of rice. Then the Mexican throws over a large bag of beans. Then the American throws over the Mexican.

– Identifying bias : Country stereotype and race stereotype, discrimination
– Analysis : The joke tells readers some stereotype. The first is the country stereotype: Asian countries have a lot of rice and Mexico has a lot of bean. These are the pride of these countries. On the other hand, a bad race stereotype which is developed to a prejudice, is there are too many Mexican immigrants in United State. The American in the story threw the Mexican off the bridge is a unfair action which presents the discrimination with Mexican immigrants.

Hi Thanh,
In my opinion, your third item and the analysis of the second one is ok. however, the first item, at my point of view, refers a specific situation. the opinion of this man is abt his wife only, not all women. therefore, it can’t be said that there is a bias towards gender in this case.:)

Hi Thanh,
It is nice to have a look at your entry and I would like to leave some opinions on your performance. In the first place I share the same idea with Thuy about the first items. The first one mentions to a specific situation and it is not clear enough to draw a conclusion a bias about gender. It is not a negative judgement and opinion for a group without knowledge of the facts. In the second items, I also have the same idea with you that it is the bias based on disability discrimination. Finally, in the third place, I see that there are two prominent biases: country stereotype and discrimination about the origin or the country. Therefore in this case, race steoreotype is not strong enough to notice. Hoping this can help!!!!!

I want to share my opinion about your entry.
personally, I think your evidence in the first item is not strong enough to point out the gender prejudice.
The man in the example does not mention to women in general but his wife. For this reason, it is not reasonable to conclude that this is a negative judgement about a group without knowledge of the fact.
hoping this can help!

Dear Thanh,
After reading your entry, I really highly appreciate your preparation in expressing your idea.
However, I want to give my suggestion to build up for your entry
In the first item, I think you had better give more explanation for the gender prejudice
In the third item, I can see two prominent biases: country stereotype and discrimination about the origin or the country.
Overall, you have done a good job. Try to keep up!

Hello, Thanh. I would like to give you some comments about your entry.
In general, You give interesting items and also analyze them clear. However, personally, I think you should show more explanation as well as evidence in the first item to support your opinion. I think it is not typical sample for gender prejudice because It mentions to the man’s wife but not all women.

Viet.
