ENTRY 3: BIAS
Item 1: A Picture
– Source: http://cristinacarinhas.wordpress.com/2010/10/01/33/
– Identifying bias: Prejudice
– Analysis: The picture shows an old man is driving. Near him, a woman is gagged with new seatbelt and that is 45% less car accidents. It is said that the picture implies the women are talkative, which causes car accidentèit is unfair.
Item 2: An article

– Identifying bias: Discrimination
– Analysis: The article shows discrimination in Nam Dinh province’ decision bases on qualifications. It is believed that all bachelors who graduate from private universities and non-state universities are not good è it is unreasonable because there are many non-state university bachelors who are successful in their job and their life.

– Source: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/stereotypes-list.html

hi you, Dung
After seeing through your entry, i would like to have some comment on the items which you colected and analysed. In genaral, i think that you have completed your entry with three items and attached analysis. So, i suggest that you should analyse more detail about the bias in each item, and you will have better entry. good luck for you! ^^

Hi Dung,
I have some comments. I realise that 3 items are suitable. However, you should analyse more detail. In item 1 and 3, you should show more clearly. In the first item, this is prejudice based on characterisics. The third item is stereotype and it is based on country and gender. That is my think.
Have a good entry!

Hi Dzung!,
After reading your entry, I want to share my thoughts to your entry.
At the first place, i found that your three items is quite suitable and interesting. Especailly, i really like the first picture, it is not only very funny but also meaningful. It points out a normal belief in everyone’s mind. The men, even some women think that “a woman who does not talk too much is abnormal, which always causes many troubles for the men.
Besides, in the second item, i want to add another type of bias here which is assumption. I want to repeat the definition of “assumption: conclusion based on limited knowledge of the facts”. The article said that the authorities in Nam Dinh do not employ the people graduating from non-state universities. They immediately go to the conclusion that these students from non state universities cannot have good quality as the other state universities. They do not examine these students carefully, they just focuss on from which kind of universites they graduate from. Is it definitely right that ones study in a state university are always better than the others from a non state university. I guess that If the authorities in Nam Dinh keep on following this rule, they may miss many real talented people.
This is my own opinion about your entry, i hope you may consider it !!!
May you a nice evening!
Yours, Tu Anh. ^_^

Hi Dung. Your entry is really interesting. Personally, I think you have identified the suitable bias. However, I think that the first item is scapegoating because people blamed for women causing car accidents instead of paying attention to other reasons. Do you think so?

hi dung!
I want to give my comments to your entry.
in my opinion, your first item should be illustrated for the scapegoating. people blame women for causing car accidents because of the fact that they talk too much and distract people who are driving.
that is my thought. I hope you would consider it!

Dear Dung.
Reading your entry, I could say that you have done a good job. You had called the name of biases in your items and show readers the clear explanation.
However, I have some small comment on your entry and hope that it is useful for you when completing your portfolio.
– With the first item, you should point out the reason you called it prejudice but not stereotype. You can show the differences between these biases so that readers could understand more deeply.
– With the second item, similarly, you should explain why it is a discrimination, what is the unfair behavior.
Love
