ITEM 1
- Ivan who is of Russian nationality, is employed by a Company to make deliveries in a white van in the London area. Ivan has been employed by that Company for three months. When he makes a delivery to one particular Company, the Foreman at that Company who we will call Fred at Ignorant Limited loses his temper with Ivan because he is late on a delivery because of traffic. He says to Ivan “You ignorant Russian bastard”. Ivan is very upset about this.

Bias: racial discrimination-this bias is based on the race-the nation.
Analysis: Fred treats Ivan less favorably or discriminates against Ivan because he is a Russian. When Ivan is just late because of the traffic jam, Fred derogates him “You ignorant Russian bastard”à discrimination on the ground of his nationality. Like this way, he is quite impolite.
ITEM 2
All white Americans are obese, lazy, and dim-witted, all Mexicans are lazy and came into America illegally while all Arabs and Muslims are terrorists, all people who live in England have bad teeth; Italian or French people are the best lovers; and all African Americans outside of the United States are poor.
Source: http://examples.yourdictionary.com/stereotype-examples.html
Bias: stereotype
Analysis: People who say like those statements think that all white American are obese, lazy, and dim-witted, all Mexican are lazy, etc. Maybe they just meet some people coming from those countries who have those characteristics, but it seems to draw their attention to those characteristics so when they talk about American, they immediately think about obese, lazy and dim-witted ones; similarly, when they talk about Arabs and Muslims, they think about terrorists, etc.
ITEM 3
Shirley Sherrod’s commitment to fighting injustice was sparked by the fatal shooting of her father, a black farmer, by a white farmer in 1965, in what was described as a spat over some cows. Sherrod was 17 when her father died—and an all-white grand jury declined to charge the shooter. “I decided to stay in the South and work for change,” Sherrod tells CNN in an interview. That same year she was refused the right to register to vote, and her husband-to-be was pushed down the stairs by the county sheriff.

Bias: racial discrimination. It is based on the race.
Analysis:
- Shirley Sherrod’s father -a black man- was shot by a white man.
- Shirley Sherrod was refused the right to register to vote
- Her husband-to-be was pushed down the stairs by the county sheriff
Bias is based on the race. Because Shirley Sherrod and her relatives are black, they were treated cruelly.
Hi Hanh,
After reading your entry carefully, I want to share some thoughts about your analysis about the three items above.
First of all, all the items of you is very concise and easy to follow. In fact, it is very typical for each type of bias we had learned. these examples are quite interesting and controversal.
However, i want to focuss on the second item. I am wondering whether all the conclusion about the Ameriacans, Mexican and so on is completely wrong? Is there something right here. What is the basis for these stereotype?
I hope you will take notice of my question.
Have a nice evening! @-@
Hi Hanh,
All of your three items have good appearance. I mean they have a suitable length and concise enough. Did you have to sumarize from the original version?
However, I’d like to give you my own opinion about your 3th item. I strongly recommend that your analysis should add another idea refered to the action of grand jury in order to prove the race discrimination in this story.
It is because all the member of this grand jury are white (an all-white grand jury) and the shooter is also a white. That’s why they declined to protect the right of black one.
Yours,
Ngoc
