Entry 4_ Tran Thi Huong
Analyzing argument
Item 1: Structure fallacy
“If a person walks by my house, my dog barks. My dog barked. Therefore, a person walked by my house.”
Source: http://jadoremonami.blogspot.com/2010/06/structural-fallacy.html
Analysis: This is inferred from the following argument:
If A, then B
B
Therefore, A
– This argument is invalid. The dog would bark because of other reasons. A person walked by the house is only one of these.
Item 2: Fallacy of presumption
“Either a Creator brought the universe into existence, or the universe came into existence out of nothing. The universe didn’t come into existence out of nothing (because nothing comes from nothing. A Creator brought the universe into existence.”

Analysis:
– This is example of content fallacy- fallacies of presumption – false dilemma.
– The first premise of this argument presents a false dilemma because it gives about the existence of universe either it was brought into existence by a Creator or came into existence out of nothing. The fact that maybe it existed from eternity.
Item3: Fallacy of relevance

Analysis:
– This is example about fallacy of relevance – appeal to customs and habits.
– The lady said to the girl “Vào nhà thờ dự lễ, lại đi giầy đỏ như thế là ngạo lễ”. This sentence is fallacy of relevance – irrelevant appeal. The red shoes that the girl wears are not relevant customs and habits in the church. And it is not relevant to her characteristics “ngạo lễ”.
